BBVA Compass cardholders: Apple Pay is here

February 19, 2015

HOUSTON – BBVA Compass cardholders can now put away their plastic and use Apple Pay.

In an extension of the bank’s efforts to give its customers access to their money on their terms, those with BBVA Compass Visa® consumer credit and BBVA Compass Visa® consumer and business check cards* are now eligible to add their cards to Apple Pay. Apple Pay lets customers make mobile payments in participating stores from their iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and, after it debuts, the Apple Watch.

“Technology is paving the way for offerings like Apple Pay that help people and businesses interact more easily,” said BBVA Compass Chairman and CEO Manolo Sánchez. “As a consumer, I admire the convenience of Apple Pay. And as a part of BBVA Compass, I admire our drive to stay ahead of customers’ expectations.”

Apple Pay also allows customers to make purchases within apps using an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.

Apple Pay creates a secure and private environment for payments and is designed to protect customers’ personal information. When customers add credit or debit cards to the service, the card numbers are not stored on the device, nor on Apple servers.

“Apple Pay feels in many ways like a long time coming since our smartphones can do so much already," said BBVA Compass Chief Digital Banking Officer Jeff Dennes. “It's an exciting development in the payments industry, and we’re pleased to bring it to our customers. Its incorporation at BBVA Compass speaks to the work we’re doing to simplify and improve banking for the digital age.”
