Professional Experience and Responsibilities
Michael W. Adler is head of U.S. Corporate & Investment Banking, which includes employees from BBVA Compass, BBVA New York and BBVA Securities Inc. He manages U.S. and global clients, financial sponsors, institutional clients, and oversees structured and syndicated lending, global transactional banking and corporate finance, and the interest rates, foreign exchange and credit businesses in the U.S. Adler, based in Houston, is a member of the BBVA Compass Management Committee and reports directly to CEO Onur Genç.
Adler was named to his current position in September 2016. Before that, he served for two years as the Commercial Banking Segment Executive for BBVA Compass, where he was responsible for the strategic planning, product development and financial performance of the segment. He joined BBVA Compass in 2010 and led the bank's efforts to build out its national asset-based lending, financial sponsor coverage and equipment leasing lines of business. He also was responsible for all commercial banking activities in North and Central Texas and the central Midwestern U.S.
Over his 33-year banking career, Adler has held executive, credit and line-of-business leadership positions for Goldman Sachs, Fleet National Bank, GE Capital, ORIX USA and Bank of America, among others. He has extensive experience in distressed asset resolution, structured equity investing and specialty lending.
Professional and Community Activities
Adler is a director of the North Texas Chapter of After Schools All Stars, which provides after-school programs for children in low-income areas.
Adler earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration and finance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
