BBVA Compass taps Brian Ching for social media

Houston Dynamo player will join the bank in supporting various initiatives

Agreement will help bolster bank, Dynamo efforts to give back to the community

May 10, 2012

HOUSTON, Texas, March 8, 2012 /PRNewswire/ -- BBVA Compass announced today that Houston Dynamo star Brian Ching will be its social-media ambassador and will promote causes important to Ching, his team and the bank.

Among other things, Ching will use Facebook and Twitter to encourage his followers to contribute to Building a Better Houston, BBVA Compass’ community-service initiative with the Dynamo. One of his first duties in the new role will be encouraging his followers to donate food to the Star of Hope shelter during the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup.

Fans also can follow Ching, the first Hawaiian drafted by Major League Soccer and one of the most accomplished players in the league, to learn about upcoming games and concerts at BBVA Compass Stadium.

The relationship kicks off before the Saturday opening of BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston’s burgeoning East End and is part of an ongoing effort by the bank to use the new state-of-the-art venue as a way to further improve the lives of Houstonians.

"I am extremely excited to work with a bank that values community involvement and customer service," Ching said.

Through various social-media channels, Ching, 33, also will provide opportunities for Dynamo fans to receive special offers and access to BBVA Compass Stadium and the Houston Dynamo.

“Brian is a role model for all Houstonians and upholds the same values as BBVA Compass — teamwork, effort and fair play,” said Mark Montgomery, BBVA Compass Houston city president. “We look forward to working with him and watching him play great soccer at BBVA Compass Stadium.”

The bank and the Dynamo have undertaken four community-service projects as part of their Building a Better Houston campaign. Players and bank employees have repaired homes and taught children financial literacy, among other things.

In addition, the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup will be held on May 31. Money raised by the annual cup will benefit Junior Achievement, which provides workforce readiness and financial literacy programs to students. Dynamo Charities and BBVA Compass will hold a food drive the day of the event, with all donations benefiting a Star of Hope shelter near the stadium.
